Fire Safety Night at the Reading Phillies
The Fire Safety Night at the Reading Phillies Baseball Game was held on Saturday, July 23, 2005, this year’s event was sponsored by Berks Fire & Water Restorations. Reading Fire Fighters/Paramedics/EMS Personnel and Retirees were honored with a pre-game introduction on the field. Representatives of other Departments were also announced during the ceremony.
With Team Mascot Screwball's arrival on the field, escorted by Firefighter Mike Shoumlisky on "Mini-E-3", all were in place for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by a member of the Berks Fire and Water staff. The Fire Department Honor Guard paraded into position.
The Philadelphia Police and Fire Drum/Bagpipe Band played at the event, courtesy of the RFD. The Department also handed out Fire Prevention Material from a stand set up under the grandstand and A Fire Prevention message from Fire Chief William Rehr was played on the Video Scoreboard. Later, Reading Firefighter Sean Hart graced all in attendance with his singing of “God Bless America” during the 7th inning stretch.
Post-game fireworks went off as the Philadelphia Police and Fire Drum/Bagpipe Band once again played on the field. After the events, a concert by the Reading Phillies Mascot Band was held in the Classic Cafe in the right field food court.
