Reading Firefighters and Reading Police faced off in an exhibition football game at a Reading Express Arena Football game on April 28 at the Sovereign Center. During halftime of the Express' game against the Montgomery Bears, the Railyard Rumble Heroes Bowl was held to benefit charity.
Not unlike the Battle of the Badges hockey and softball games that have been held in the last two years, the Heroes Bowl was a sporting way for the two groups to get together and perform for the local crowd while helping some worthwhile causes. Proceeds from the event were given to the Michael H. Wise Memorial Foundation, the Scott Wertz Scholarship Fund and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
During the 20 minutes of play time, the police scored three times to beat the firefighters who could only get across the goal line once. The police also scored two extra points to win in the 20 - 6 victory. Scott Wertz's two sons played for the police. Jarod Wertz scored one of the goals by catching a pass in the end zone.
