That phrase was uttered after the win by Reading Firefighters in the Battle of the Badges Softball Game on Friday April 14, 2006 at First Energy Stadium. Firefighters agree, although their 13 - 10 win over the Reading Police felt good, the reason for the game felt better. The game was played to raise money for the Michael H Wise II Foundation and to honor the slain Reading Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in June of 2004.
After the tie in the Battle of the Badges Hockey game played in February, both teams were itching for some type of rematch. Hockey would have been their first choice but when the Reading Phillies approached city officials with the idea of a softball game everyone leapt at the opportunity. A portion of ticket sales were donated by the Phillies to the Foundation which has been set up to assist children of police and firefighters. Wise's widow, Denise, was on hand at the game and threw out the first pitch.
