On October 4, 2005 at around 15:00, the crew of Engine 5 was cleaning up after returning from a burn session at the training site when a man ran up into the 500 blk of Laurel Street and told them he was chasing a robbery suspect.
FF B. Briner radioed in to dispatch from his portable and notified them of the situation. As he was relaying the information, 1st Deputy Chief M. Moyer passed by the station and came in contact with the man who had been a customer inside the Riverfront Credit Union at the time of the robbery.
The suspect had continued up Laurel Street and was seen entering a home in the 600 block. Chief Moyer parked his vehicle in the block and directed the responding police officers to the home. Police evacuated several surrounding homes before moving in to capture the suspect who was apprehended without further incident.
A letter of commendation was presented to Chief Moyer which acknowledged the actions of all those involved who demonstrated their commitment of service to the citizens they protect.
