Shortly after shift change at 1826 hours, box alarm 143 was dispatched for a reported kitchen fire at 1015 Patton Avenue in the Oakbrook projects. Additional information on response stated the occupants had a grease fire spreading throughout the kitchen. Responding on the box were E14, E5, E3, L1, T1, R2 (R1), E1 (safety), Medic 602, Cars 3 & 6. Car 3 arrived and reported smoke showing. Upon investigating, the occupants had a fire on the stove which extended to the walls behind it. The bulk of fire that extended was knocked down by occupants using a garden hose and Car 3 returned the safety company. Crews checked for further extension and a PW was utilized to knock down hot spots. A heavy smoke condition was cleared with a fan and one occupant was evaluated by EMS for smoke inhalation. Units cleared within 20 minutes.
