Shortly after midnight Box 353 was transmitted for a working fire at 114 W. Greenwich Street. Communications was reporting numerous calls and fire visible from their location. E11-E3-E1-L1-T1-R2(R1)-E13 Safety-M602-Cars 9 & 5 responded on the Box with E11 coming from the west reporting heavy smoke showing and trucks from the east reporting heavy fire from the rear of a large?3 story end of row. An 1 3/4 line was stretched from E11 into the fire building as Car 9 arrived on the scene. With the volume of fire visible and extension into 116 W. Greenwich, 2 more lines were stretched and Car 9 asked for the 2nd Alarm within the first few minutes. Both aerials were going into roof operations.
2nd Alarm on Box 353 was struck bringing E9-E5-L3-Cars 1-4-& 22. With crews making progress in the original fire building & Exposure 4, Car 5 reported fire extension along the roof lines in the rear 3 exposures west. 2 more lines were stretched into Exposures 4A & 4B(118 & 120 W. Greenwich)?with E11 completely depleted of 1 3/4 line. Car 1 called for the 3rd Alarm and for the company to come back the alley off of McKnight Street.
3rd Alarm on Box 353 was transmitted bringing E14-Cars 3 & 4, Unit200 & FM10 was also responding. E14 laid dual supply lines as they came down the alley to the rear and went into service with 2-1 3/4 lines from the rear into the 1st floor of Exposure 2 and the 2nd being used on the 2nd floors of Exposures 4A & 4B. Fire progression in the rear was halted at 120 W. Greenwich with the next exposures being Andy Farraro's Notary Service at 122 & 124 W. Greenwich being spared. With 7 handlines in use, the fire was placed under control with extensive overhaul around 2am.
114 W. Greenwich was found to be a vacant and sight of previous fires. 116-118-120 W. Greenwich were occupied multiple occupancy dwellings and the Red Cross were assisting 20 plus victims on the scene from those residences. 1 firefighter from E5 was transported to RHMC with an apparent knee injury, no other injuries were reported.
During the fire, the Canteen Unit200 was struck by a passing motorist ripping the rear bumper off the canteen. The motorist trying to drive away also struck a few parked vehicles before being accosted by neighbors & bystanders.
Crews started to clear around 0411, with FM10 & Car 22 staying at the scene to investigate. Thanks to those who sent in the photos.
