Early this evening, box 86 was dispatched for a report of smoke coming from the 3rd floor of 349 Spring St. The 17:46 alarm sent Engines 11, 9, 3, 1 safety, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Medic 603 and Cars 5 and 6 to the scene. Upon arrival, Engine 11 reported smoke showing and a handline was stretched into the building. Crews arriving on the 3rd floor found smoke pushing from the baseboard and around the window of the front bedroom.

Firefighters began opening up the front wall and found heavy fire, crews checking the exposure at 351 found similar conditions. The fire also began to expose itself from the exterior through the built in gutter common to several other homes attatched to the fire building. Car 5 ordered a second alarm at 17:56 which sent Engines 13, 5, Ladder 1, and Car 5 to the scene to assist. Cars 1 and 10 also responded.

Firefighters eventually needed to open up all the walls and the ceiling of both rooms to get all the hidden fire. Additional crews worked on the roof and the front exterior. The 3rd floor of both buildings was gutted and water and smoke throughout the structures led to an extensive overhaul. According to reports, 11 occupants were forced from the homes, the Red Cross was called to provide assistace. The report also listed the incident as accidental, The Fire Marshal is continuing his investigation.
