Written by FF A. Kutz
May 13, 2006
Box 14 was transmitted for a structure fire with entrapment on the 2nd floor of 306 S. 5th Street. E5-E3-E1-T1-L1-R1-M603-E14 Safety-Cars 5 & 7 responded on the Box. Car 7 arrived to find a 3 story middle of the row multiple occupancy with fire showing in the first floor hallway blocking the means of egress for residents and heavy smoke thru-out. Numerous excited occupants were out front still reporting 2 children still inside with L1 getting the same report in the rear. An 1 3/4 line was quickly stretched from E5 knocking down the fire in the hallway and crews began the search. While crews were searching the large building a confirmation was reached outside that the mother & 2 children made their way out through a 2nd floor rear window. Primary & Secondary searches were completed and the fire was placed under control within 10 minutes of dispatch, crews returned within the hour. FM10 was called to the scene to investigate.
