Working Fire Moss Street

Firefighters in the north-east were summoned to 1043 Moss Street early this morning for reports of smoke coming from a second floor of a dwelling. As they arrived on the scene, Engine 9 reported smoke showing and dropped line at Robeson street. After forcing the front door, crews from Engine's 9and 1 advanced a line from the steps to the middle floor driving fire back into a second floor bedroom. Fire was contained quickly being stopped 3 minutes after arrival. Engine 9s driver suffered a minor injury while forcing the front door. He was a treat and release at SJMC.

Engine Companies 9,11,1,13 Ladder 3 Rescue and Medic 1. FM 10 responded later for investigation. crews were on scene almost 2 hours.

Our Condolences to the family of Retired Firefighter Donald L. Daniels who passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008. Firefighter Daniels last worked on Engine 14 on the D Platoon after a long assignment on Ladder 1. He retired in May of 1995. Donald was also active in many committees of the Reading Firefighters Local 1803 and was instrumental in negotiations of many of the benefits that firefighters still enjoy today.
