At 04:14, Box 254 was transmitted for the rear of 924 Penn Street, E1-E13-E3-T1-L1-R1-E5 Safety-Cars 5 & 7-and M602 responded. Dispatch reported also getting calls from 922 & 918 Penn Street. As crews pulled up, residents were fleeing the buildings with one resident from 922 reporting his entire apartment was on fire. Lines were stretched into 922 Penn Street on all 3 floors from E1. 922 & 924 Penn Street are 3 story apartment buildings with stores on the first floor,?and 918 Penn is a triple wide renovated apartment building. A vacant lot was Exposure B.

Car 5 called for the 2nd Alarm as fire was consuming the rears of 922 & 924 and all hands were working. E9-E11-L3-M601-Cars 1 &?6 responded on the 2nd. T1 laddered the roof from Penn and with L1 committed to search & fire attack, L3 was ordered to ladder the rear off of Cherry Street. Lines were also being stretched off of E5 in the rear off of Cherry.

Visible fire was knocked down in 922 & 924 but it was apparently a good amount of fire remained inside of walls, ceilings, and voids. Car 5 called for the 3rd Alarm which brought E2(E14)-M603-Cars 2,4,8,9,600 & FM10 to the scene along with Unit 200. Met-Ed was kept busy as crews encountered live wires inside the walls & ceilings.

Numerous occupants were evacuated from the buildings and were kept warm inside the EMS units as temperatures were around 20 degrees, not making matters any easier for the crews in the street, on the roofs, & fire escapes.

The fire was placed under control shortly after 6am. E8-E12-& SN1 were brought in to restore hose & equipment and the initial alarm companies were returned after 7am. FM10 is investigating. The red Cross was called in to assist residents. Thanks to Paramedic B. Mack for sending us these photos.
