Around 07:40 this morning, apparatus were dispatched to the 200 blk of No 4th Street for a motor vehicle accident, Engine 3, Rescue 1, Medic 602 and Car 6 responded. Upon arrival, personnel learned that one of the vehicles involved was an oil delivery truck. During the crash, which also involved three other vehicles, the tank of the oil truck was pierced and fuel oil was running down the street.

Rescue one positioned downhill from the leak at No 4th and Elm Streets and crews immediately began spreading out absorbent pads and prepared diking material around a storm drain to collect the oil. The Lieutenant went up to the tanker and used a collection of devices to stop the flow. Although he could not completely stop the leak he was able to slow it considerably.

The Hazmat Unit was dispatched to bring additional material to the incident, the oil company also dispatched a crew to the scene to assist in the clean up. Some product did get into the catch basin. DEP was also called to the scene. Crews cleared the incident in about 2 hours but the clean up took several hours longer. There were no reported injuries.
