One of the biggest dangers?to your health comes from trans fats, artificially made fats that clog arteries and increase levels of bad cholesterol in your body ? and which are linked to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes. This month on Fit to Survive, learn how to identify and avoid foods containing trans fat.

Those who visited Fit to Survive in the past may recall the article, "ADAPT to Survive," on rehabilitation for injured fire fighters. This month,?Orlando Gomez, a member of Portland, OR Local 43 and a physical therapist, explains why fire fighters take longer to return to work after injuries. His rehabilitation program uses a five-level training model to ensure appropriate recovery and rehabilitation.

The newly updated Fit to Survive also?includes tips on foods for a healthy heart, recipe makeovers and the popular menu planner for planning simple, healthy meals. Each day's meals add up to 2,200 calories.
