At 1925, Box 154 was transmitted for 648 Brookline Street for a report of smoke in a residence. E14-E5-E3-SN1(L1)-R1-E8(E1) Safety-M601-Cars 5 & 7 were assigned to the Box Alarm, Car 22 responded from home. As crews went responding, dispatch advised they were now receiving multiple calls. R1 responding from a dinner run in the area had a heavy column of smoke, E14 reported heavy fire showing from the rear on arrival.

Heavy smoke was pushing from the front of 646 Brookline Street, a 3 story wood frame semi-detached residence attached to 648 Brookline. Fire was venting from 2 windows on Side B and the entire rear of the residence was involved in fire extending to the 2nd floor. The front door was forced and an 1 3/4 line was quickly in service on the 1st floor. A 2nd 1 3/4 line was stretched to the 2nd floor, and a 3rd to the rear yard to cover exposures & exterior extension. With SN1 tied up with tight aerial operations and T1 busy on an AFA, L3 was called to the scene for ground ladder & ventilation operations.?The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down with a natural gas fed fire contained in the 1st floor until utilities were secured.?The fire was placed under control with extensive overhaul within 40 minutes.

646 Brookline sustained heavy fire damage to the 1st & 2nd floors, 648 Brookline had substantial smoke damage, and 644 Brookline caught some radiant heat damage to their siding. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist 4 adults and 2 children displaced at 648 Brookline where it was reported 2 cats perished from the smoke. The Boyertown Canteen Unit also responded because Unit 200 had mechanical problems.

FM10s investigation slowed the overhaul operation, along with crews assembling a brace from 4x4x8 off R1 to shore up the rear first floor ceiling above the point of origin, crews cleared shortly after 2200. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
