Box 24 was dispatched after 21:00 tonight for a reported kitchen fire at 808 Chestnut Street. Upon arrival, Car 3 reported a victim on the front porch after crews investigating reported a working fire in the kitchen. An 1 3/4" handline was stretched into the 1st floor of the middle of the row dwelling and firefighters quickly knocked down the flames.

The fire was contained to the area around and above the range. Reportedly, a pan on the stove caught fire and involved the range hood before it was discovered. It also damaged the cabinets. The house was filled with smoke which firefighters ventilated after the fire was extinguished. There was no report of a damage estimate and the other occupants were planning to stay in the home.

The male victim was treated by firefighters prior to the Medic Unit arriving on the scene, he was reported to have suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to the hospital. Apparatus on the box were Engines 13, 1, 5 and 3 as the safety, Tower 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Medic 604 and Cars 3 and 6.

Reports indicated that someone in the home was cooking and may have turned away to answer the phone.
