Shortly before 13:00, Box 724 was transmitted for a confirmed working house fire at the intersection of Gordon & W. Douglass Sts. Initial reports from the fire dispatcher that occupants were trapped or had jumped from the building.
Apparatus that responded were Engines 11, 3, 9 and 1 for safety, L-1, Twr-1, R-1, Medic 602, 604 (for M601), ambulance 605, Cars 1, 5, 7. Cars 10, 22, 23 also went on the Box.
Eng -11 arrived within minutes. The crewman of Eng -11 reported a 3 story middle of the row at 425 W. Douglass St, with heavy fire on the first floor. Eng -11's crewman stretched an 1 3/4 handle line as other units were arriving on location to assist. M604 reported that everybody was out of the building. The initial attack crew knocked the bulk of the fire down and a 2nd handline was stretched to the 2nd floor for minor extension. A search and rescue crew checked the 2nd and 3rd floors to confirm everyone got out.
Firefighter James Stoudt Jr. the Driver of Rescue 1, was taken to the hospital by an ambulance for a lower leg injury, after examination, it was determined to be a broken foot. The fire marshal's office is investigating the possibly that a 4 year old child was playing with a candle. The Red cross was called to assist with 2 adults, 2 children. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
