Candle Reported Cause of Bedroom Fire Print E-mail

At 1136hrs this morning, Box 724 was struck for a reported bedroom fire at 478 West Oley St. Engine 11 reported smoke showing on arrival then and quickly updated confirming a working 2nd floor fire. One 1 3/4 handline was deployed on the end of row to the second floor through a side entrance to the apartment above. Ladder 1 placed a ground ladder to the 2nd floor porch roof. The fire was contained to the front second floor bedroom and the mattress and box spring was tossed out by the firefighters during light overhaul. The 1st-in crewman of E-11 stated that the bedroom door was shut as he entered which helped contain the fire to the front room only.

A candle is reported to be the cause of the fire, Fire Investigators reported that the candle was located beside the bed near an opened window. Engines 11, 9, 3 and 1 safety Co. Ladder 1, Tower 1 worked on ventilation and extension. R-1 Suppression, M-601, C-1, C-2, C-8, C-22, C23 Fire Prevention Lt investigated on scene. The crews were free at 1219hrs No reported injuries.
