Two fires occurred within minutes of each other this evening. The first alarm was dispatched around 17:25 for a reported fire in the 600 blk of So. 6th Street. Box 16 brought out Engines 13, 3, 14, 11 safety, Tower 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Medic 601 and cars 2 and 8. Engine 13 discovered a working fire in the 300 block of So. 6th while responding and units on location in the 600 block had nothing showing. The rest of the apparatus were diverted to the fire building, 304 So 6th Street. The 2nd floor of the dwelling was well involved and a handline was stretched into the building. Car 2 reported possible extension to the 3rd floor and fire running the Philadelphia style gutters common to all the houses in the row.

Shortly after units arrived on location at So 6th Street, another box alarm was dispatched for a structure fire at 21 Croyden Terrace. Engines 1, 5, Snorkel 1 and Car 1 responded to box 721.

Car 1 arrived on location and reported a fire on the stove that involved the cabinets above. The fire was blackened down and firefighters overhauled the area around the stove and cleared the home of the thick smoke condition that resulted from the fire.

Back at the So. 6th Street fire, Car 2 was reporting the bulk of the fire on the 2nd floor knocked down and crews were advancing to the 3rd floor. An additional handline was stretched. Firefighters were also on the roof ventilating and opening up the gutter to try and stop the spread of fire to the exposure.

A report of a victim came in. Firefighters used a ladder to help a male victim, who escaped out a window. Firefighters continued working to extinguish the fire.

Around 18:00 Car 2 put the fire under control but crews still needed to perform an extensive overhaul and wrap up. Some of the units began leaving the scene around 18:30.

Car 10 was called to the scene and began an investigation into the cause of the fire. The Red Cross was called to assist residents of the building as well as the victims of the Croyden Terrace fire.
