Shortly before 16:00 this afternoon, Box 245 was dispatched for a reported garage fire. Engines 1, 13, 8, 3 safety, Tower 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Medic 602, Cars 6 and 3 were ordered to respond to the rear of the 1100 block of Franklin Street. Car 6 arrived on location and reported a working fire.

Flames were blowing out the entrance of the structure and burned through an electrical line overhead. The line lay across the alley and arced for a few moments before settling down. The electric company was called to the scene.

An 1 3/4 handline was pulled off Engine 1 and advanced down the alley to the rear of the garage and the flames were blackened down temporarily. Firefighters in the front used a power saw to cut through the garage door for better access to the interior.

The fire was knocked down and a crew took to the roof to overhaul fire inside the roof decking and the eaves of the fire building and the exposure. The garage was gutted and there was damage to the attached garage. Crews wrapped up and cleared the scene just after 17:00. The fire is being investigated.
