Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services Division of the Fire Department maintains 3 fully equipped and certified Ambulances staffed with a team of 24 Paramedic/Firefighters that are available to serve around the clock. To supplement the emergency response, all Firefighters are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and respond with Fire Apparatus along with Paramedics to all Medical calls considered severe in nature. All Fire Apparatus are equipped with medical supplies including Oxygen and Automatic External Defibrillators.

The EMS Division also provides Basic Life Support Transportation and operates 3 Wheelchair Accessible Medical Transportation Vehicles. There is also a reserve Ambulance that is used during a major incident or when another unit needs to be serviced. Our professional and courteous staff is here to serve you 24 hours a day 365 days a year in both emergency and non-emergency cases.

reading_ems_fleet.jpgMemberships are available to City of Reading Residents and provide a cost savings to members for certain services. The annual cost is $35.00 for an individual and $50.00 for a household membership. To join the service, residents should mail a check (payable to City of Reading EMS) to City of Reading EMS, 815 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601-3690.

The department will be beginning NFPA 1006 Training For Technical Rescue. The course starts in November and finishes in March.

The Liberty Station Fire Museum Project moves forward with some repairs to the exterior, and a new heating system.

Allentown Brother In Need!

There will be a monetary collection for Allentown Fire Fighter Rick Ensley.  He and his family suffered a total loss of home and possessions due to a fire that occurred on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. photo from Morning Call
