Firefighters were alerted to an MVA and notified radio that they were responding and asked for a rescue assignment to be dispatched. Two victims were injured in the wreck.
Around 12:30 this afternoon firefighters at the 9th and Marion Streets Station were listening to a report over the police frequency that a chase was ensuing in the 300 blk of Buttonwood Street heading east. The report indicated that police where following a possible stolen vehicle with two occupants inside.
As the vehicle entered the NorthEast section of the City, the driver sped off. Police continued to follow the vehicle. As the vehicle approached the intersection at No. 9th and Oley Streets, the driver went though the red light and struck the rear section of a van. The auto spun around and wrapped around a pole. The impact broke out much of the glass and caused the rear hatch to pop open. Police reported that the vehicle was involved in an mva.
Firefighters were alerted to the details given that the vehicles crashed and that there was entrapment. The crews of Engine 12 (9) and Snorkel 1 (L-3) called radio that they where en route and to dispatch a full rescue assignment. The companies arrived and found a victim trapped in the vehicle and another ejected out the back.
The victim inside the auto was extricated within 15 minutes and transported to Reading Hospital with numerous fractures after being treated on the scene. The other victim was also transported to trauma unit with severe head injuries. A third victim in the struck van was not treated. Companies where on the scene approximately 30 min. Units assigned to the pin job where Engine 12 (9), Snorkel 1 (L-3), Rescue -2, Car3, Medic 603 and Exeter EMS.
