Engine 5 and Tower 1 were dispatched to Franklin Towers, which occurs nearly 100 times a year. Crews would soon find out this response was anything but routine. While Investigating an alarm on one of the upper floors, firefighters located a male unconscious of an apparent suicide attempt. Medic 603 was requested, and began working a "class 1" overdose. The patient had left several notes documenting his planned suicide, including thanking the firefighters for their fast response. The smoke was a result of food left on the stove, purposely placed there by the individual. Medic 603 was successful in reviving the patient who was transported to the hospital quickly.
