Box 428 was transmitted around midnight for a garage fire in the area of 200 block of north 9th street. Communications advised Car 7 multiple calls were received for a fire either in the rear of Moss or 9th streets.

First due Engine 1 arrived and found a garage well involved in the rear 218 Moss. Engine companies were directed to take positions at the alley off of Walnut street. A 2 1/2 line was stretched from Engine 13 up the alley for a direct attack. An additional line was also stretched from Engine 1. As crews worked the main garage an exposure garage on the north began to show signs of smoke showing from the windows and doors. Crews from the Tower and Ladder 3 also began opening both roofs checking for extension.

The fire was under control in 30 minutes, with additional overhaul. Car 23 is investigating.

Our Condolences

Our Condolences to the family of Retired Firefighter Donald L. Daniels who passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008. Firefighter Daniels last worked on Engine 14 on the D Platoon after a long assignment on Ladder 1. He retired in May of 1995. Donald was also active in many committees of the Reading Firefighters Local 1803 and was instrumental in negotiations of many of the benefits that firefighters still enjoy today.

Our Condolences

Our condolences go out to the family of Retired Firefighter Robert J. Luckenbill, Sr. who passed away on October 5, 2008. "Snorkel Bob" last worked the B Platoon on Snorkel 1, retiring in February of 1992.

Arrangements for stricken Officer Announced

Funeral arrangements for Police Officer Anthony Miccicke, Sr. are announced and the Fire Department will help honor the life of the Police Officer.
