In addition to two other calls that kept firefighters busy tonight before midnight, including one which sent Engine 3 and Ladder 1 to assist companies in West Reading, two other incidents in the early morning hours completed an active shift.
At 0150, E3-L1-C7 were dispatched to the Book Bindery Apartments for an AFA. E3 reported heavy smoke on the 5th floor and Phantom Box 1546 rang out shortly after. E1-E13-E5-T1-R1-C5-M602-C23 responded on the first alarm. E3 discovered a small fire burning in the trash room, similar to a fire in the past. Numerous fans were set up to vent the 5 story L-shaped apartment building, crews cleared within 45 minutes.
later around 0530, Box 154 was dispatched for 506 Lancaster Avenue putting E14-E5-E3-L1-R1-C5-C7-M601-E1 Safety on the street. E14 reported smoke showing from the rear and E3 reported fire showing from a 3rd floor window in the rear. An 1 3/4 line was stretched but interior crews reported a window frame involved and called for PW extinguishers. A deep seated fire was burning in the window frame and extinguished with a PW with no extension. The occupant of the structure knocked down a door to evacuate children on the 3rd floor. Crews cleared shortly after 6. Car 23 & the electrical inspector were called to investigate.
