This morning at 1005hrs, an AFA came in for 520 Carroll St, Quakermaid Meats. Response was E-5 & L-1. During response we were notified of a water flow activation with additional a short time later of an actual fire at the location. Upon arrival the building was evacuated and personnel directed the crews to the rear of the plant and smoke was observed.

Engine 5 called for the Box (152) assignment and dispatched were Engines 14, 3, 1 safety, Tower 1, Rescue 1, Medic 602 and Car 2. The Sprinkler system was doing a good job containing a fire located in a sealed room for Oil Storage on Pallets with thick cardboard as support. A 1 3/4 inch handline was brought in through the rear joining room and was reduced to use of a Booster line since most of the fire was out. The Sprinkler system was shut down just after.

The Pallet was pulled out of the sealed room for overhaul and ventilation was started throughout the Building storage areas. The crews had encountered Oil slicked floors and many sets of Turnout gear exposed to the Oil. The Fire Marshal along with both Prevention Lts. were on scene and investigating with Plant Officials. There were no known injuries and crews clear around 1109hrs.
