Shortly before noon today units were dispatched to River Road near the Route 12 exit for a overturned tank truck carrying milk.
A tanker overturned on River Road near the Route 12 exit around noon today. It began spilling it's 3000 gallon Milk contents onto the roadway and threatened to get into the Schuylkill River nearby. A hazardous material response was dispatched to dike the liquid.
The product was diverted into a storm drain and water was added so a cleanup company could pump it out from a catch basin along the same drain. It is unknown how much of the content of the tanker was picked up, it was reported that none was released into the river.
Engine 8, Rescue 1, Cars 1 and 22 responded, the department's new Hazmat unit was also put into service to deliver absorbent to the scene.
