A brush assignment was dispatched today at 1630 hours for what was thought to be a small brush fire on the Neversink Mountain. As companies began to arrive a large volume of fire was observed on the southern slope off of south 9th street. Other city companies were also sent to assist with manpower and some master stream activity. Shortly after original dispatch county fire companies were also notified to assist. Companies from as far away as Boyertown and Straustown were sent. The fire is still in progress at this time.

Initial Companies:

Brush Units - 2, 3 (brush 1 out for repairs)

Engine - 1

Car 8

Addtional Units:

Engines 5, 3

Car 4, 10, 22, 9

County Companies: 1, 2, 3 ,4 , 8, 70, 56, 72, 56, 24, 23, 36, 19, 61 (Hamburg forestry crews) Squad 18 & 85, Forestry crews from 39, 50, 54.

Our condolences go out to the family of Retired Firefighter Robert J. Luckenbill, Sr. who passed away on October 5, 2008. "Snorkel Bob" last worked the B Platoon on Snorkel 1, retiring in February of 1992.

Firefighters Remembered

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration announce that the 27th annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend will be held October 4-5, 2008. Flags are to be flown at half staff on Sunday October 5, 2008.
