First responders kept a drainage ditch from becoming a watery grave for one lucky pooch.

It happened in Reading late yesterday. Police say a passer-by called them after seeing the dog stuck in the drainage ditch at Raymond and Delta Avenues.

Rescuers had a difficult time getting the dog out of there. They were up to the challenge and managed to capture the dog and haul it up in that bright orange rescue tarp.

There's no word as to whether the dog has an owner, but it did have a collar. Authorities say the canine appears to be in good shape, just a little shaken up by the ordeal.
