One Treated At Structure Fire Print E-mail

Firefighters responded to a box alarm shortly after 14:00 this afternoon. Box 83 was dispatched for a reported structure fire near the intersection of No 6th and Robeson Streets.

Arriving apparatus reported the correct address to be in the 1000 block of No 6th Street. Smoke was showing from the rear first and second floors and the second and third floors in the front of the building. Smoke was also showing from the exposure.

Crews advanced an 1 3/4 inch handline through the front door and hit the fire in the kitchen of 1058 No. 6th Street. Heavy smoke filled the building and another crew searched the upper floors while venting. Fans were set up to assist in clearing the smoke after the fire was knocked down.

The fire originated in the kitchen of 1058 and spread up into the cabinets and across the ceiling. Firefighters had the incident under control within 20 minutes.

The Red Cross was called to assist the occupants of the home, which was heavily damaged. Apparatus on the box were Enignes 11, 9 8 (3), 1 safety, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Medic 601 and Car 7. Ladder 1 was called to the scene to assist. Car 23 was called to the scene to investigate. Initial reports indicated unattended cooking however no official report was given.

One occupant of 1056 was treated on the scene by paramedics for mild smoke inhalation.
