Reading PA Fire Department

Several calls were received this morning around 09:00 for a fire in a residence at 915 Pike Street. Box 645 was dispatched at 09:04 for the incident which sent Engines 9, 11, 1, 3 safety, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Unit 605 and Cars 1 and 8 to the scene.

The ladder arrived on location and reported smoke showing.

Firefighters had to force entry into the building and found a working fire in the basement. A single line was advanced into the home and the crew hit the fire directly. The building was laddered as additional crews searched the upper floors of the 2 1/2 story middle of row.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes and overhaul of the basement was started. The search of the dwelling proved negative. A check of the exposure also proved negative for extension of the fire.

The fire marshal and heating inspector were called to the scene. No estimates on damage were given.

During the incident, a water flow alarm was received for 1402 No. 9th Street. Engine 13 and Snorkel 1 responded.
