One of the most critical issues facing Fire and EMS responders is the significantly high rates of Cancer among responders.
The International Association of Firefighters has produced and released a booklet detailing this issue, information about various types of cancer and a status update of legislation across the United States. The Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association has made this special report available to us and on their website. Because this is such an important issue to both Volunteer and Paid Fire and EMS responders, I have attached the report in pdf format to this note for you to read and use.
House Bill 1768, Pennsylvania's Cancer Presumption Bill, was passed by the House this session and has been sent over to the Senate. PFESI's State Wide Advisory Board's 100 plus member organizations support this critically important Bill and encourages each of you and your families and friends, to contact their Senator and ask them to vote for House Bill 1768. A copy of the bill is also attached to this note.
An alert will be sent shortly from PESLA.org to each person registered on the site requesting they notify their Senators of their support for this important legislation.
We will be working hard during the waning days of this legislative session to have the Senate Tax Credit Bills and the House Cancer Presumption Bill passed. Each member organization of the SWAB will be contacting their members to encourage them to sign up on the PESLA website and become involved in the process. Please join with us in this effort by registering to receive alerts and then acting on those alerts.
It starts by going to http://www.pesla.org and registering.
DO IT NOW PLEASE IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY REGISTERED!
If you have already registered, make sure you TAKE ACTION on these two vital issues when you receive your alert.
