A platoon companies were called into action early Friday morning when box 25 was tapped at 0459. First arriving Engine 8(13) found fire venting from the first floor of 154 south 12th street. A line was stretched into the multiple dwelling to protect the stairs and attack the fire. Residents reported hearing smoke alarms on the upper floors and fled the building through the rear of the house. The occupants of the first floor removed themselves via windows. All searches throughout the rest of the property proved negative. A pregnant female became ill during the incident, prompting immediate transport. A second unit was then dispatched. The Fire Marshals office is investigating.
