Royals Benefit for Member's Child Print E-mail

SIERRA HIRSCH, 8 year old daughter of City Paramedic Don Hirsch has been diagnosed on the Autism spectrum with Aspergers Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD and high levels of anxiety.  At 1 st glance, Sierra looks like every other child.  She is fun loving, caring and the first to help someone in need.  However, Sierra struggles daily, as she does not understand normal social cues and has trouble with relationships.  She is very sensory sensitive and has trouble processing normal sensory input, which causes her to be easily overwhelmed by loud noises and crowded places.  She gets so overloaded that she wanders away into the street or other dangerous places.  She has frequent meltdowns and is unable to calm herself.  Her high levels of anxiety make it hard for her to leave her parents' side and prevents her from enjoying many of the activities kids do everyday.

The Hirsch's have reached out to 4 Paws for Ability to obtain an Autism service dog for Sierra.  This is a non-profit 501-C(3) charity that provides service dogs for special needs families.  A service dog for Sierra will cost $11,000 to train.  The dog will accompany Sierra everywhere, and be trained to do many things to help the Hirsch family and help keep Sierra from wandering into dangerous situations and keep her safe.  The dog will help her with behavior correction and assist her in calming herself when she gets overloaded.

The Hirsch's are asking for your help in gaining Sierra the safety, independence and happiness every child should have.  If you can help, please send a tax deductible donation to 4 Paws for Ability, Inc. at 253 Dayton Avenue , Xenia , Ohio 45385 ..  Please be sure to write “In Honor of Sierra Hirsch” in the memo section of your check.  For more information, please visit http://www.freewebs.com/sierrasdog/.
