At approximately 2345 hrs, E-11, R-1, M-2 and C-6 were dispatched to Schuylkill Ave and Lehigh Street for an MVA with injuries. West Reading PD came across the accident and were reporting at least one class 5. M-4 was then also dispatched.

Responding crews found a an SUV with major damage and a large debris field across the intersection. Only an unrestrained driver was found. A large amount of gasoline and other fluids were running down the street and were controlled by fire department personnel.

Witnesses state that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control on Schuylkill Ave. It struck a large stone planter and narrowly missed a car stopped for the red light on Lehigh. The crash was so violent that the street lights were ripped off of the pole. The pole remained standing. Big John of Big John's Dining Emporium, was nice enough to open his restaurant and provide refreshments for the responders during the police investigation.

Fire department personnel popped the driver's door and removed the victim from the vehicle after the police and coroner initial investigations. Contents of the vehicle and a newspaper box that was on the corner were spread so far that a street sweeper was called to control the mess.
