Update: The identity of the victim found in yesterdays Walnut Street fire has been released. Also released was a probable cause of the fire.

Investigators released the name of the female victim that was found unconscious by firefighters on the third floor of 129 Walnut Street. Wanda Maldonado, age 40, was removed from the building and treated by EMS. She was transported to Reading Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An Autopsy is scheduled, the preliminary contributing factor of her death is believed to be smoke inhalation.

The State Fire Marshal also released a probable cause and ruled the fire accidental. He believes an electrical malfunction started the fire but the investigation is ongoing.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration announce that the 27th annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend will be held October 4-5, 2008. Flags are to be flown at half staff on Sunday October 5, 2008.
