A
study done on the City's EMS Service was unveiled to the
administration at a recent city council meeting. The Ludwig
Group's Managing Director, Gary Ludwig, in his report said
that the current system run within the Fire Department
does an outstanding job serving the citizens of Reading
and that the City would not benefit by contracting the
service. “Your current system is an excellent system,”
Ludwig said. “With a little tweaking it can become better.”
Ludwig did outline several
items which could enhance the current system and improve
the income by better collection methods. Another notable
item in the report suggested working with the hospitals to
educate patients on the proper uses of both the EMS Service
and the Emergency Room.
The administration received the report with an optimistic
tone. Managing Director Churchill said that the planned suspension
of funding to EMS at the end of June 2005 would be lifted
and that the budget would be revised to include financing
through the end of the year.
