Reading Fire HockeyThe RFD Ice Hockey team out scored the Harrisburg team 6-1 when the two teams once again faced each other on Friday May 2, 2008. The game was played at the Twin Ponds Ice arena in Harrisburg. The Reading team was dominate in their victory playing with an aggressive offense, and a solid defense led by our goalie Todd Iaeger. Multiple players scored for the RFD team. with all having a great time. We would like to thank the Harrisburg ice hockey team for a spirited game, and we can't wait to see them on the ice again. The team members also want to thank all of their fans that came out to root them on to victory.

On Saturday April 26th members of the IAFF Local 1803 participated in the 45th annual Fraternal Order of Police and International Association of Firefighters Bowling Tournament held at Colony Park Lanes North in York, PA, Read More
We received a photo from the Fire Marshal of some of the members and their families that participated in the Great American clean-up on Saturday April 19, 2008. The group took care of cleaning up the area around Bear Park in the NorthWest section of the City.

3rd Alarm Fire Damages Multiple StructuresA least four structures were damaged during a third alarm fire on april 15, 2008 around 16:00. Fire in 1022 Oley spread quickly to the exposure and needed numerous handlines to control. Crews on the roof made a trench cut to stop the spread from above.

District 4 IAFF/MDA ConferenceAt the District 4 IAFF/MDA Conference in Ocean City, Maryland on April 15, 2008, four Reading Firefighters heard many success stories from other IAFF Locals whose members are helping the Muscular Dystrophy Association find a cure for the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. The district has the distinction of having five Locals out of the top ten in the Nation to raise the most in donations to the IAFF's total contribution in 2007 of more than $25 million, Read More.

On April 12, "Reading Firefighting" authors Michael J. Kitsock and Michael R. Gore held a book signing at The Hendel House of the Berks County Historical Society along with Chief William Rehr to sign the books, "Reading Volunteer Fire Department" and "Reading Firefighting."

New Deliverys
On March 30, 2008, The city took delivery of two 2008 Ford Explorer special service chief's vehicles. The vehicles were purchased from Kovatch Ford, which is a participating dealer in the costars program. The current vehicles for Car's 3 and 4 will become a spare and Car 24 for newly promoted Lt. Lessar.
Despite the holiday conflict, the Reading Firefighters once again came through to put on another quality event. Thanks to FF Mike Shoumlisky for putting it all together, Jam on Sound for being part of the group, the Temple Fire Company and to all our loyal guests who year after year help us make this event a hugh success.
