The City of Reading's
Paramedics have just completed another phase in their training
to become certified as firefighters. During the first part of the Pump Operator's Course, the trainees were instructed in fireground hydraulics, the different types of pumps and the operations of fire service pumps.
The trainees also reviewed the many adapters and fittings associated with Pump Operations as well as hose and nozzles. During the practical section each Member operated the various Engines of the Department.
The group of more than 20 was hired in
2001 when the City took over EMS and was required to have
the certification completed in a timely manner. Another session is already being planned for the
future at which time the group will finish up their instructions
in Pump Operations and then begin training to drive Apparatus.
