At 17:07hrs, box #323 was struck for a fire at 135 Pear St, a middle of the row, 3 story residence. Engine 3 and Ladder1, first due and only 2 blocks away, arrived quickly to find light smoke coming out the front door. Engine 3 crewman stretched a 1 3/4 inch handline through the front door backed up by the firefighter from Ladder 1.

Ground ladder was put up to the second floor porch roof, and the rear was checked and door forced for egress. It was quickly noticed that there was no fire on the 1st floor. The basement area just below the steps was burning up the staircase. An aggressive attack was made and the fire was quickly extinguished, ventilation followed along with exposure D.

Engine 1, 13, 5 safety, Tower 1, Rescue 1, Medic 601 and Cars 2, 8 and 22. FM-10 is investigating the cause. No known injuries reported. The crews were rapped up within an hour and back in service.
