Around 0100 this morning, an MVA was reported in the 300 blk of Morgantown Road on the property of the UGI Corporation. Engine 14, Rescue 1, Medic 603 and Car 6 responded. Numerous reports received indicated that a vehicle struck a tree and was on fire.

Engine 14 arrived on location and confirmed a vehicle into a tree and a working fire in the engine and passenger compartments. A handline was pulled and the fire was attacked. Shortly after extinguishing the flames Car 6 called radio to notify them of a fatality inside the vehicle.

Police stated that it appeared that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed as the driver attempted to maneuver a curve in the road but instead traveled straight onto the lawn of the Gas Company and struck the tree. Fire also reported damage to other property in front of the Gas Company building.

Update: The Coroner's office has released more information on the victim who was reported as 28 year old City resident Michael Sternberg from Moss Street.
