Fire at FirstEnergy Stadium PDF Print E-mail
Written by FF J. Batz

Wednesday night shift for the A platoon proved to be quite busy after a passing thunder storm pounded the city for a few hours. Companies began to handle the numerous additional fire alarm system activations with reduced company support (one engine or ladder company only).

Around 22:00, while investigating a report of a transformer fire on North 5th Street, Engine 11 was summoned for a report of a lightening strike at FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Reading Phillies. Box 522 was tapped bringing out Engines 11, 9, 13, 5 Ladder 3, the Rescue and M602. Car 8 arrived quickly and reported a column of smoke from the parking lot and that he needed immediate FE from the first arriving company to get through the gate.

Firefighters opened the gate and Engine 11 arrived and quickly made the stretch into the ball park and went into service after locating a "Dippin' Dots" cart in the 3rd base line food court fully involved. The Fire was handled by Engines 11, 9 and Ladder 3. All other units were returned to service. Car 8 investigated and indicated an electrical problem may have been the cause of the fire.
