Fire in Vacant displaces family PDF Print E-mail

Saturday, 21 July 2007

A box alarm was reported shortly before 15:30 this afternoon. Fire in a vacant at 210 Pearl Street gutted the residence and got into an occupied exposure. The flames got into the attic and burned through the roof before firefighters got the upper hand.

Crews did manage to control the fire in just under 30 minutes but not before it caused considerable damage to the exposure at 212 Pearl, where a family of five resided. The family was displaced and sought assistance from the Berks County Chapter, American Red Cross.

City officials ordered an emergency inspection of 210 Pearl and may order an emergency demolition as early as Monday. There were no reported injuries.
