s17nahalf.jpgA platoon Companies were awoken early this morning for a bedroom fire in the East Reading section of the city. Box 232 was transmitted at 06:02 hours for a dwelling in the 500 block of South 17 1/2th Street. The communications center began receiving multiple calls soon after being alerted of the fire by a Central Berks Police Sergeant, who was in the area. The Officer reported smoke billowing from a second floor window and then began alerting neighbors. Engine 13 arrived and began a single line stretch into the structure while the Tower attempted to set up in the narrow, hilly street. Crews had the fire contained to a second floor bedroom within 15 minutes, with overhaul and venting to be done in the adjacent properties as well. Companies responding included Engines 13, 5, 1, Tower 1 and Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Safety Engine 3 and Medic 602. The fire marshals office is investigating.

Thanks to FF A. Kutz for contributing and to Disp. 32, Mike W. for sending us the photo.
