At 2313 hours, Engine 13, along with medic 602, were dispatched to the intersection of 8th and Bingaman St for chest pain.
Engine 13 arrived on location and found a male lying unconscious on the sidewalk after friends pulled him up through the exterior basement door. While the EMT's on the engine were getting vital signs, they asked bystanders what the pt was doing when this started. Through this questioning, it was found that the pt was working in the basement with a generator on. The building on the NW corner of the intersection (Jauco Family Restaurant) is undergoing renovations and has no electricity. The pt, along with another individual, were working on the property trying to restore it for business when the incident occurred.
Once it was found out it may be a carbon monoxide problem, a paramedic used the CO monitor carried on their first-in bags to see if it may in fact be a carbon monoxide incident. As soon as the medic descended the exterior stairs into the basement, the CO monitor went into alarm. Car 8 was notified and had Rescue 1 respond. The pt was loaded into the medic unit in serious condition.
Firefighters went through the building to do atmospheric monitoring. The generator was turned off prior to the engine arriving on the scene and all levels of CO had come down with natural ventilation. The other person working with the victim was transported to the hospital for observation. Units cleared the scene in approximately 20 minutes.
Later in the shift, Engine 13 was called out for two other medical calls. One at 03:10 was for a possible shooting in the 200 blk of Wunder Street. The victim, a male, was shot numerous times at various locations on his body. No care was given to the victim and units cleared the scene.
While backing into the fire house after the call, the engine was once again called out to another medical run in the 1500 blk of Haak Street. There, another male was found with stab wounds. The attack reportedly took place in the1400 blk of Perkiomen Avenue and the victim staggered to the location of the call where he finally collapsed.
The Engine was called back to the Wunder Street scene around 10:00 for a wash down.
