One of the fire department's five new KME engines that was delivered recently responded to it's first working fire around 14:00 this afternoon. Engine 13 was first due on box 26 for the 200 block of maple street. Heavy fire on the 2nd floor of the dwelling at 225 Maple was evident upon arrival and firefighters quickly went in service to attack the flames.

Crews advanced a single handline into the residence and had the fire blackened down within 10 minutes. Around that time, a priority call from Car 22 to dispatch announced that a live electrical wire had burnt through and lay across Tower 1 operating in front of the building. The ladder aerial could not be used and a ladder was pulled off another apparatus. The electric company was called to cut the power.

The fire was put under control about 35 minutes after dispatch. There was no word on occupants or damage to other structures.
