"B" Platoon members were just getting things in order for the start of their last day shift when a box was struck for 6th and Buttonwood streets. A woman was reported to be coughing, while exiting a smokey dwelling at 537 Buttonwood street. Car 7 already on the road with a last minute shift adjustment arrived quickly. The chief had a 3 story MOR apartment building, fire showing from windows on the first floor. A line was placed into service immediately after engine 1's arrival. Rescue and Ladder crews split with personnel coming from the front and rear fire escapes. The victim was treated and then transported to Reading Hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire engulfed all of the first floor apartment. All upper floor apartments were vacant. The fire was placed under control approx 30 minutes later. Companies remained on scene for an additional hour for overhaul.
