Pair of calls on the D Platoon PDF Print E-mail

Call was put out at 21:30 for an electrical smell in a rear office of the Burger King, 436 Centre Ave, summoning Engine 3, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, and Car 9. The same Burger King was the site of a fatal shooting recently.

Shortly after crews arrived at the restaurant, Box 49 was transmitted as the Communications Center was receiving multiple calls for a row of garages on fire in the 300 block of Lombard Street. Engine 1, Engine 13, Engine 8(Engine 9), Tower 1, Snorkel 1 (Ladder 3), Engine 11 Safety, Medic 601, and Car 4 hit the street with Rescue 1 redirecting to the Box. Engine 1 arrived at Lombard Street with a fully involved stripped down vehicle next to a row of garages and stretched an 1 3/4 line. Car 4 quickly put the fire under control with no extension to the garages and crews started to clear within 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, Car 9 reported a smell of Class A materials burning at the Burger King incident and had Rescue 1 & Engine 11 respond to his location. It was reported workers were putting on a new roof at the Burger King and FD crews checked the roof area with the Thermal Imaging Camera. They found a hot area and pulled back the rubber roof to find roof decking smoldering underneath. A saw was used to open up and the booster line was stretched to the roof from Engine 3. The fire was placed under control shortly after 2200 and crews cleared within the hour.
