Reading Royals Kids Academy visits a City Fire Station
The Reading Royals Kids Academy monthly activity for January was a visit to a Reading fire house. On Tuesday January 24, the kids and their parents gathered at the 3rd and Court Station and along with Royals staff, players and mascots, Slapshot and Sammy the Squirrel, got to tour the firehouse and check out the fire apparatus.
A lesson about fire safety was given by Fire Marshal Todd Iaeger. Iaeger demonstrated firefighter's turnout gear and self contained breathing apparatus with the help of two Royals players, a short film about fire safety was also shown. The tour of the firehouse included the kitchen, sleeping quarters and eventually led the kids to the apparatus room where they got to see Engine 3 and Ladder 1 close up. Firefighters demonstrated the equipment and the kids got to climb on the rigs and spray water from a booster line. Rescue 1 later showed up and the specialized tools used to free victims of auto accidents were exhibited.
We hope that everyone had a great time and learned something about firefighters and fire safety. Thanks to the Reading Royals organization, CTCE Credit Union and to the Fire Department and the Fire Marshal for setting up the visit.
