Communications began to receive calls around 1500 hrs reporting smoke from a dwelling in the 300 block of carpenter street. Box 124 was tapped for 342 Carpeter, bringing companies to a structure at the EOR with flames showing from the 3rd floor rear windows.

At 2014 an accident was reported at the intersection of 13th & Union streets in the city's northeast. A rescue assignment was sent and found a vehicle accident with entrapment. Ladder 3 began initial operations of removing the roof of the car.

C platoon had their hands busy this afternoon when Box 29 was struck. Around 1153 communications reported a kitchen fire with possible entrapment at 161 Clymer street. As companies began to arrive, 2nd Deputy Chief Sands requested a 2nd alarm at 1158.
Busy Night Shifts for the D Platoon 8/1/08 20:33 - Dispatched to 8th and Spring with Engine 9 and Medic 601 for a motor vehicle accident. Engine 9's crew found one vehicle ran into 800 Spring St. The collision damaged the brick wall and tore off electric service lines to the building's tenants....

M603 was dispatched early this morning for a cell phone report of a man lying on Neversink street. The caller gave vague info as he was passing through and did not stop. Upon arrival M603 found a male lying along the roadway straight down from a railroad overpass.

Around 1900 hours communications began receiving multiple phone calls from an apartment building on the city's north side. Box 53 was tapped immediately afterwards for 1609 North 9th Street. During response reports of several occupants in and outside the building with breathing difficulty.

Box 18 was tapped this afternoon bringing companies out for a fire on Neversink street. First arriving apparatus found 46 Neversink with heavy first showing on the first floor rear. Crews had the fire under-control approx 20 minutes later.

First responders kept a drainage ditch from becoming a watery grave for one lucky pooch. It happened in Reading late yesterday. Police say a passer-by called them after seeing the dog stuck in the drainage ditch at Raymond and Delta Avenues.

A brush assignment was dispatched today at 1630 hours for what was thought to be a small brush fire on the Neversink Mountain. As companies began to arrive a large volume of fire was observed on the southern slope off of south 9th street.

D" Platoon companies just relieving the "A" shift from a humid dayshift began a busy nightshift with a box alarm into the 18th Ward on Pershing Blvd. Initial calls for that incident reported smoke throughout a building.

Shortly after 2000 hours a call was made from the 400 block of south 10th street. The individual reported smelling natural gas in the block. An assignment was sent, bringing Engine 13, Tower 1, Rescue 1 & Medic 603 into the area.

Box 75 transmitted around just prior to 1500 hrs for report of a fire in a 2nd floor bedroom at 858 Schuykill Ave. Engine 9 arriving quickly assumed first due, and found a matress and a trash can burning.

While most city companies were enjoying a relatively quiet Monday evening, box 84 dropped at 2114 reporting a fire at 150 Spring St. Engine 11, who was on the street from a med call, went on the scene reporting smoke showing from the 3rd floor.

With companies busy at Box 515 on Crescent Ave. Engine 5 was tapped out for a vehicle fire in the 500 block of south 14 1/2th street. Crews found a vehicle which had been previously set on fire with a body in the rear seat.
