We regret to announce the passing of Retired Firefighter Robert R. Ringler Sr. FF Ringler retired from service on March 16th, 1988. Ringler spent the majority of his 35 years working Ladder 1. Bobby also served as the very first president of Reading Firefighters Local 1803 in 1968.

Reading Firefighters have been receiving training in water rescue techniques from Harrisburg Firefighters Lt. Corey Stone & Capt. Mike Feldman. After spending some time in the classroom all platoons will enter a pool to learn rescue and self-survival techniques.

Congratulations to Blaine Aydelott on his position with the Philadelphia Fire Department. He will complete an 8-week academy and graduate on August 9th. Blaine was hired in March of 2017.

On Wednesday, June 13th firefighters traveled to the Variety Club Camp in Worcester to participate in the 2018 Greater Lehigh Valley MDA Summer Camp. The summer camp allows for children of all ages to come together for the week and enjoy life without the stresses of everyday living.

On Monday, June 4th firefighters from many departments gathered in Northhampton to honor Reading Firefighter Erik Hirner. Hirner was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident while commuting to work on May 27th.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Firefighter Erik Hirner (Badge 303). Hirner was gravely injured on Friday, May 25th in an accident on Maidencreek Road. Hirner frequently traveled the road to come to work to avoid the heavy traffic on Route 222.

In a move to improve government infrastructure, the city is moving forward on a large project to construct 2 firehouses and consolidate several older houses. The ambitious project will have both projects under construction at the same time in the hopes to lower construction costs.

The Reading Firefighters held their Spring Boot Drive on Friday, May 11th. Donations were collected at the door of the Wawa from 6:00-9:00w while greeting folks purchasing their morning coffee. Firefighters then took to the streets at 11:00 to begin taking donations from motorists.
