On Saturday, April 22, Reading Firefighter Jeffrey LeCompte participated in the Saint Lukes Half-Marathon. Every year since 9/11 Jeff has run the race wearing protecting clothing in honor of the 343 firefighters who perished at the World Trade Center terror attack.

After several weeks of training and practice, the 2017 Seagrave Tractor-Drawn Aerial has been placed in service as Ladder 1. The former 1996 Simon/LTI TDA will be kept as a spare. The 1998 Simon/LTI TDA will eventually be disposed of.

We regret to announce the passing of retired Firefighter Earl Williams.Earl began his career on August 7th of 1969 and retired from the department in June 1997. He worked many years on Ladder 3 and moved to Engine 14 in 1995 both on the A platoon.

A small contingent from the department joined thousands of other firefighters in the City of York to pay their respects to FF Ivan Flanscha and FF Zachary Anthony. Both were killed while operating at the Weaver Organ & Piano Factory when the building collapsed on their crew.

In a case of old meets new a 1959 Mack/Maxim ladder truck came face to face with its modern equivalent a 2017 Seagrave. Reading's former Ladder 1 is now privately owned by the Keystone Fire Company.

After many years of phone calls, texts, and emails the Reading Fire Department took delivery of a custom fabricated door entry training simulator. Over a decade ago the department had a very crude door simulator fabricated through Training Lieutenant Ron Wentzel.
